Leimert Park Village

$8.00

Leimert Park Village is the commercial and cultural heart of the Leimert Park neighborhood in South Los Angeles, made up of Leimert Plaza Park, the shops along 43rd Street, 43rd Place and Degnan Boulevard, and the Vision Theatre. The neighborhood was developed from 1928 by Walter H. Leimert with a plan by the Olmsted Brothers, who also designed the plaza park as its public center. Since the 1980s the village has been a hub of African American art, music and culture, with jazz and blues clubs, galleries, a regular drum circle and the Project Blowed hip hop open mic that began in 1994. The Los Angeles City Council designated it Historic Leimert Park Village in 2018. The 1932 Vision Theatre at the south end of the village has been owned by the city since 1999.
