The city itself grew up around the reconstructed London Bridge, purchased from the City of London in 1968 by entrepreneur Robert McCulloch, dismantled, shipped to Arizona, and rebuilt over a man-made channel, reopening in 1971 as a tourist attraction. The state park provides beach access, camping, and boat launches along the lake near the bridge. Its warm water and desert scenery make it a popular boating and watersports destination.
