Koontz Coffee Pot

The Koontz Coffee Pot is an 18-foot-tall building shaped like a giant coffee pot, built in 1927 by David Koontz as a lunch stand attached to his gas station along the Lincoln Highway in Bedford, Pennsylvania. It was one of thousands of novelty roadside structures built in that era to catch the eye of passing motorists before the interstate highway system existed. Threatened with demolition in the 1990s after highway realignment left it stranded, it was moved across the road to the entrance of the Bedford County Fairgrounds in 2004 and restored. It now operates as a small gift shop and local landmark.
