The Kentucky Derby Museum is a Thoroughbred racing museum on the grounds of Churchill Downs, dedicated to the history of the Kentucky Derby, which was first run in 1875. It opened to the public in the spring of 1985, funded largely by a gift from the estate of James Graham Brown. Two floors of exhibits cover breeding, training, owners, trainers and jockeys, including the importance of African American jockeys and trainers to the race, and a 360-degree theater shows the film The Greatest Race. Visitors can watch any Derby from 1918 to the present, and guided tours go behind the scenes at Churchill Downs. After flash flooding in August 2009 the museum was renovated and reopened on April 18, 2010.
