The dam created Kentucky Lake, one of the largest reservoirs by surface area in the eastern United States. The park serves as a gateway to the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, the peninsula separating Kentucky Lake from nearby Lake Barkley. It includes a lodge, golf course, and marina, making it one of the more developed resort parks in the Kentucky system.
