Iron-on patch

Illinois State Fairgrounds

$8.00

The Illinois State Fairgrounds is a 366-acre state-owned site on the north side of Springfield, Illinois, and the home of the Illinois State Fair, held there for 11 days every August. The state began using a 156-acre parcel here in 1894, after the fair had spent 40 years moving from town to town, and expanded the grounds to their present size in 1924. The fairgrounds now holds more than 100 permanent buildings, including a 13,000-seat grandstand, and hosts horse shows, rodeos and other events during the rest of the year. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district in 1990.
