Iron-on patch

Hope Memorial Bridge

$8.00

The Hope Memorial Bridge, long known as the Lorain–Carnegie Bridge, carries traffic 4,490 feet across the Cuyahoga River valley between Lorain Avenue on Cleveland's west side and Carnegie Avenue downtown. Completed in 1932 for $4.75 million, the art deco truss bridge stands 93 feet above the river so ships can pass beneath. Its signature is the Guardians of Traffic, eight Berea sandstone figures by sculptor Henry Hering and architect Frank Walker on pylons at both ends, each holding a vehicle from a hay wagon or stagecoach to a 1930s automobile or truck. The bridge was renamed in 1983 for the Hope family, including Bob Hope's stonemason father Harry, who worked on the sculptures, and a 14.5-foot walking and biking path opened on its north side in 2012. In 2021 the Guardians gave Cleveland's baseball team its new name.
