Honeymoon Island State Park

Honeymoon Island State Park, near Dunedin, Florida, takes its name from a 1940s marketing campaign in which a developer built rustic cabins on the island and offered them to newlywed couples as a tropical honeymoon retreat, a promotion that ran in Life magazine. The park protects one of the last remaining stands of virgin slash pine in Florida, along with beach and mangrove habitat. It sits adjacent to Caladesi Island State Park, reachable by ferry or, at times, by walking along a connecting sandbar. Ospreys and other shorebirds nest throughout the park's undeveloped shoreline.
