Iron-on patch

Holliday Park

$8.00

Holliday Park is a 94-acre public park on the north side of Indianapolis, about six miles from downtown, running down to a long stretch of the White River. John H. Holliday, founder of the Indianapolis News, and his wife Evaline deeded their estate to the city in 1916, and it formally joined the city park system in 1932. Its signature sight is The Ruins, where Karl Bitter's sculptures from New York's St. Paul Building, demolished in 1958, stand in a setting designed by Indiana artist Elmer Taflinger and dedicated in 1973. The Holliday Park Foundation restored and expanded The Ruins between 2012 and 2016, adding a performance space. More than 3.5 miles of trails wind through woods with over 400 species of trees, shrubs and wildflowers, and the nature center that opened in 2000 is open Monday through Saturday.
