High Cliff State Park, near Sherwood, Wisconsin, sits atop dolomite cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment overlooking Lake Winnebago, the largest inland lake in Wisconsin. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the cliffs supported a lime-kiln industry, and ruins of the old kilns remain visible in the park today. The park also preserves several Native American effigy mounds, earthworks built in animal and geometric shapes centuries before European settlement. Trails along the escarpment offer views out over the lake.
