Harriman State Park, near Island Park, Idaho, occupies the former Railroad Ranch, a cattle ranch established in the early 1900s by a group of investors that included officials connected to the Union Pacific Railroad, among them members of the Harriman family. The Harriman family donated the property to the state of Idaho in 1977. The ranch's stretch of Henry's Fork of the Snake River is internationally known among fly anglers for its clear, slow-moving water and technical dry-fly fishing. The park is also an important wintering ground for trumpeter swans and supports resident moose and elk.
