Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain is a mountain, a non-profit attraction and a North Carolina state park near Linville. At 5,946 feet it is the highest peak on the eastern escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains, one of the major chains of the Appalachians. It stands at the meeting point of Avery, Caldwell and Watauga counties, and is the highest point in the latter two. The Blue Ridge Parkway passes along its southern side and over nearby Grandmother Gap. Grandfather Mountain State Park was officially established in 2009.
