Grand Central Market is a historic public market at 317 South Broadway in downtown Los Angeles, in continuous operation since it opened in October 1917. It fills the ground floor of the Homer Laughlin Building, and in its early years served shoppers who rode the Angels Flight railway down from Bunker Hill. By 1926 its 120 stalls served around 40,000 customers a day, and after World War II it became a low-cost grocery hub for the largely Latino shoppers of downtown. Attorney Ira Yellin bought the market in 1985 and restored its Beaux Arts details and neon signs. Since the 2010s it has paired legacy vendors with newer food stalls, and it draws about two million visitors a year.
