Iron-on patch

Gilcrease Museum

$8.00

Gilcrease Museum, formally the Thomas Gilcrease Institute of American History and Art, holds one of the world's largest and most comprehensive collections of art of the American West, on the former estate of Muscogee (Creek) oilman Thomas Gilcrease northwest of downtown Tulsa. Gilcrease opened a gallery on the estate in 1949, deeded his collection to the city in 1955, and his foundation conveyed the buildings and grounds in 1958; the University of Tulsa has managed the museum with the city since 2008. It sits on about 460 acres of wooded hills that also hold the Thomas Gilcrease house and mausoleum, the Helmerich Center for American Research, and themed historic gardens, and a 13-mile hiking and mountain-bike trail system broke ground on the grounds in 2026. The original museum building was demolished in 2022 to make way for an entirely new museum designed by SmithGroup, scheduled to open in March 2027.
