Iron-on patch

Gallows Hill Park

$8.00

Gallows Hill Park is a city park on the high ground of Gallows Hill in west Salem, long believed to be where the 19 victims of the 1692 witch trials were hanged. That belief has been set aside: in 2016 researchers confirmed that the executions took place at Proctor's Ledge, at the foot of the hill and outside the park, where a memorial was dedicated in 2017. Land in the area was bought by the city in 1936 and dubbed "Witch Memorial Land", though no memorial was built at the time. The park has a playground and a parking area, and it is where visitors to the Proctor's Ledge Memorial are asked to park.
