Iron-on patch

Frick Park

$8.00

Frick Park is the largest municipal park in Pittsburgh, covering 644 acres of wooded ravines and trails in the city's East End, and one of its four historic large parks. Industrialist Henry Clay Frick left 151 acres south of Clayton, his Point Breeze mansion, to the city when he died in 1919, along with a $2 million trust for its upkeep, and the park opened on June 25, 1927. It has since grown from Point Breeze through Squirrel Hill to the border of Edgewood, and a restored stretch of Nine Mile Run carries it nearly to the Monongahela River. Its steep, largely undisturbed woods shelter owls, wild turkeys, foxes and other wildlife, and the LEED Platinum Frick Environmental Center opened there in 2016. The park's Blue Slide Playground gave Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller the title of his 2011 album, Blue Slide Park.
