Iron-on patch

Franklin Park

$8.00

Franklin Park is a 527-acre park bordered by Boston's Jamaica Plain, Roxbury and Dorchester neighborhoods, the largest park in the city and the last link in Frederick Law Olmsted's Emerald Necklace. Olmsted planned it as a country park of rural scenery and woodland, and it officially opened in 1885; it was renamed from West Roxbury Park in honor of Boston-born Benjamin Franklin. The grounds hold the Franklin Park Zoo, the William J. Devine Memorial Golf Course, Scarboro Pond, Ellicott Arch and the ruins of the 1912 Bear Dens in Long Crouch Woods. Its trails are a famous cross-country running course that hosted the 1992 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. In 1898 Brown and Harvard students played what is often cited as the first intercollegiate ice hockey game in the United States on one of its frozen ponds.
