Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park, in Lawrence, Indiana, occupies part of the former U.S. Army post of the same name, established in 1903 and named for President Benjamin Harrison, a former Indianapolis resident. The Army closed the post in the 1990s as part of a national round of base closures, and a portion of its grounds was converted into a state park and golf course. Trails wind through the former post's wooded areas, some of which retain older Army-era buildings nearby outside the park boundary. It offers a mix of open fields and forest close to downtown Indianapolis.
