Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, near Mandan, North Dakota, sits on bluffs above the Missouri River and includes reconstructed buildings from the 1870s-era military post where Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer was last stationed before leading the 7th Cavalry to the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. The park also includes On-A-Slant Village, a reconstruction of an actual Mandan earth-lodge settlement that stood on the site from roughly the mid-1600s until the mid-1700s. Visitors can tour both the reconstructed cavalry post, including Custer's house, and the earth lodges. The site preserves layers of both U.S. Army and Northern Plains Native history.
