Forest Home Cemetery

$8.00

Forest Home Cemetery is a historic rural cemetery and arboretum in the Lincoln Village neighborhood on Milwaukee's south side. Members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church established it along the Janesville Plank Road, naturalist Increase A. Lapham planned its curving drives in 1850, and the first burial took place that August. The grounds grew to nearly 200 acres and now hold more than 110,000 burials, including brewers Frederick Pabst, Valentin Blatz and Jacob Best, three of the Davidsons who founded Harley-Davidson, seven Wisconsin governors and 28 Milwaukee mayors. The red sandstone Gothic Revival Landmark Chapel was completed in 1892, and the Halls of History mausoleum tells the stories of more than 100 Milwaukeeans. Its Victorian landscape holds over 100 species of trees among ornate statues, crypts and monuments.
