Iron-on patch

Five Points South

$8.00

Five Points South is the historic commercial center of Birmingham's Southside, gathered around the Five Points Circle on 20th Street South at the foot of Red Mountain. Southside grew in the 1880s and 1890s as a streetcar suburb, and most of the district's buildings went up between 1887 and 1931, starting in the era of the Town of Highland. The district mixes 1920s Art Deco and Spanish Revival storefronts with landmark churches such as St. Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church (1892) and Highlands United Methodist Church (1909). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and enlarged in 1986, 1991 and 2019. Today it is one of Birmingham's best-known dining and nightlife districts, with Frank Fleming's Storyteller Fountain on the Circle.
