Farragut State Park

Farragut State Park, near Athol, Idaho, sits on the shore of Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho's largest lake and one of the deepest in the country outside the Great Lakes. During World War II the site was home to Farragut Naval Training Station, one of the largest naval training centers in the country, where roughly 293,000 sailors trained between 1942 and 1946. After the war the land became Idaho's largest state park and has hosted several national Boy Scout jamborees. Remnants of the naval station's brick buildings and layout are still visible in parts of the park.
