Evans & Rosedale is the historic commercial crossroads of Fort Worth's Historic Southside, a neighborhood known for its African American history, centered on Evans Avenue where it meets East Rosedale Street southeast of downtown. Its blocks include Mount Zion Baptist Church, organized in 1894, whose brick church was begun in 1919, and Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church and Parsonage, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It adjoins Terrell Heights, platted in the late 1880s, where banker William "Gooseneck Bill" McDonald sold and financed lots for Black families and doctors, teachers and business owners built homes. The Lenora Rolla Heritage Center Museum is nearby, and the planned National Juneteenth Museum led by Opal Lee is slated for the Historic Southside. The city designated Evans & Rosedale an urban village and rebuilt a five-block stretch of Evans Avenue between Terrell Avenue and Rosedale Street.
