Iron-on patch

Enos Park

$8.00

Enos Park is a historic residential neighborhood just north of downtown Springfield, Illinois, covering about 36 square blocks between North Third, North Ninth, North Grand and Carpenter streets. It is named for Pascal P. Enos, whom President Monroe appointed receiver of the Springfield land office in 1823 and who bought part of the land the original town was platted on. Most of the neighborhood's additions were platted by 1909, and by World War I its tree-lined streets were filled with Victorian, Italianate and Queen Anne houses. It includes Edwards Place, begun in 1833 and one of the oldest houses in Springfield, and the one-block Enos Park that Susan Enos gave to the city in 1905. After decades of decline, residents formed the Enos Park Neighborhood Improvement Association in 1989 to restore it.
