Iron-on patch

Discovery Park

$8.00

Discovery Park is a 302-acre Sacramento County regional park at the confluence of the American and Sacramento rivers, beside Interstate 5 just north of downtown Sacramento. It is the western end of the American River Parkway, and the 32-mile Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail starts here at the Jibboom Street Bridge before running upriver to Folsom. Stands of mature trees and grassland frame boat ramps, fishing access on both rivers, softball fields, an archery range and four reservable picnic sites. The park is built to flood: it is part of the Sacramento area flood-control system, and in high-water winters it can go under to take pressure off the American River levees. Since 2012 it has also hosted the Aftershock rock festival every October.
