Iron-on patch

Denver Botanic Gardens

$8.00

Denver Botanic Gardens is a public botanical garden on York Street in Denver's Cheesman Park neighborhood, on its own parcel of about 24 acres beside Cheesman Park rather than inside it. The site was once part of Denver's old city cemetery complex, the Gardens' land being the Catholic Mount Calvary section, and graves were still being uncovered there as recently as 2008. The Gardens hold North America's largest collection of plants from cold temperate climates, a sunken amphitheater that hosts summer concerts, and the Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory, the first American conservatory built entirely of concrete and Plexiglas. Denver Water coined the word xeriscape in 1981, and in 1986 the Gardens planted one of the first xeriscape demonstration gardens, now called Dryland Mesa. Other highlights include Shofu-en, the Japanese Garden of Wind and Pines, and Denver's first publicly accessible green roof.
