Dead Horse Point State Park sits on a narrow mesa near Moab, Utah, with an overlook roughly 2,000 feet above a dramatic horseshoe bend in the Colorado River. Its name comes from a local legend that cowboys once corralled wild mustangs on the point, using its narrow neck as a natural fence, and that some horses died there after being left behind. The park sits close to Canyonlands National Park and shares its red-rock canyon scenery. It's one of the most photographed overlooks in the American Southwest.
