Iron-on patch

Confluence Park

$8.00

Confluence Park is a small environmental-education park at 310 W. Mitchell Street, where San Pedro Creek meets the San Antonio River on the Mission Reach south of downtown. The San Antonio River Foundation built it on a former industrial site and opened it in March 2018 as a teaching tool about Texas ecotypes and how a watershed works. Its main pavilion, designed by Lake|Flato Architects with Matsys, is a cluster of 22 curved concrete 'petals' that funnel rain into an underground cistern holding up to 100,000 gallons, with Rialto Studio as landscape architect. The Estela Avery Education Center next to it has a green roof and a solar array sized to cover the park's energy needs. The design won an AIA National Honor Award in 2019 and a place on the AIA COTE Top Ten in 2023.
