Iron-on patch

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

$8.00

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a non-profit zoo in Liberty Township, Delaware County, Ohio, outside the Columbus city limits; its mailing address is in Powell, Ohio 43065. It sits on the eastern bank of the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir on the Scioto River, about 15 miles and a 20- to 30-minute drive north of downtown Columbus. The present zoo opened in 1927 as Riverside Park on 21 acres and now houses more than 7,000 animals of over 800 species in regions themed on parts of the world, among them Polar Frontier, Heart of Africa and the North America Trek. Jack Hanna, its director from 1978 into the early 1990s and later director emeritus, built its national profile before retiring in 2020. The zoo lost its Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation in 2021 over financial mismanagement and regained it in March 2023.
