Iron-on patch

City Park

$8.00

City Park is a 1,300-acre public park in New Orleans, Louisiana, roughly 50 percent larger than New York's Central Park. The land, once the Allard Plantation, passed to the city through John McDonogh's will in 1850 and was declared a public park in 1854; it was formally organized as City Park in 1891. The park holds the world's largest collection of mature live oaks, some more than 600 years old, including the Dueling Oak, where men once settled matters of honor. Much of its layout, bridges and sculpture came from a 1930s Works Progress Administration expansion. Its grounds include the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the New Orleans Botanical Garden, Couturie Forest and Carousel Gardens Amusement Park.
