Castlewood State Park sits on limestone bluffs above the Meramec River in Ballwin, Missouri, just southwest of St. Louis. In the early 20th century the area was a popular resort destination, with dance halls, swimming clubs, and cabins drawing city residents by rail; traces of that era remain visible along some trails. Today the park is known for hiking and rock climbing on its bluffs, along with river access for canoeing and fishing. Its proximity to St. Louis makes it one of the busier parks in the Missouri system.
