Carew Tower Observation Deck

$8.00

Carew Tower is a 49-story, 574-foot Art Deco skyscraper on Fifth Street between Race and Vine in downtown Cincinnati, and was the city's tallest building from 1930 until 2011. Developer John J. Emery planned it as a "city within a city" of offices, shops, a hotel and a garage, and work went on through the start of the Great Depression; the tower opened to tenants on October 1, 1930. Its lower floors hold an arcade decorated with Rookwood Pottery tiles, and the adjoining Netherland Plaza hotel is known for its Art Deco public rooms. The 49th-floor observation deck was long a popular view of the city but closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the tower is being converted into apartments in a project slated to finish by the end of 2029, so check whether the deck is open before planning to go up. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994.
