Iron-on patch

Capt Tony's Saloon

$8.00

Captain Tony's Saloon is a bar at 428 Greene Street in Key West, in a building first put up in 1852 as an ice house that doubled as the city morgue. It is where Sloppy Joe's began: Joe Russell opened his bar here on December 5, 1933, and Ernest Hemingway spent many of his evenings here until 1937, when Russell moved the business to 201 Duval Street, where Sloppy Joe's still stands. Charter boat captain Tony Tarracino bought the Greene Street bar in 1968 and named it Captain Tony's Saloon. Jimmy Buffett got his Key West start playing here in the early 1970s and later sang about it in "Last Mango in Paris". Barstools painted with famous patrons' names and a preserved goliath grouper above the sign are its trademarks.
