Cape Henlopen State Park

Cape Henlopen State Park sits where Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean, next to the town of Lewes, Delaware's first permanent settlement. During World War II the point was home to Fort Miles, a coastal artillery installation, and several of its massive concrete observation towers still stand along the shoreline, some open for visitors to climb. The park includes the 'Great Dune,' one of the tallest dune formations on the mid-Atlantic coast, along with a nature center and a fishing pier. Its mix of beach, pine forest, and wetlands supports a wide range of coastal wildlife.
