Iron-on patch

Buffalo Zoo

$8.00

The Buffalo Zoo, at 300 Parkside Avenue, is one of the oldest zoos in the country, founded in 1875 on 23.5 acres of Delaware Park. It grew from a pair of deer given to the city, and Frederick Law Olmsted made room for a zoo in his design for the park. The Works Progress Administration rebuilt much of it in the 1930s, including the Entrance Court designed by African American architect John Edmonston Brent. A master plan begun in 2002 added the South American Rainforest in 2008 and the Arctic Edge polar bear habitat in 2015. About 400,000 people visit each year, and the zoo is open year-round.
