Buffalo Central Terminal

$8.00

Buffalo Central Terminal is a 17-story Art Deco railroad station in the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood, about 2.5 miles east of downtown Buffalo. Fellheimer & Wagner designed it for the New York Central Railroad, and it handled trains from 1929 until Amtrak moved out in 1979; with City Hall it is one of the city's two signature Art Deco landmarks. After years of neglect, stripping and vandalism, the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation bought the complex in 1997 for $1 and has been stabilizing and restoring it since, helped by $61 million in state funding awarded in 2022. The 271-foot office tower and the passenger concourse, with its original clock returned in 2009, are the centerpieces. The building is closed for construction, so visitors see it from the grounds and at outdoor events on the Great Lawn, which run April through October.
