Brenton Point State Park

Brenton Point State Park occupies the tip of Newport's scenic Ocean Drive, on land that once held a string of Gilded Age mansions before they were demolished in the mid-20th century. Today the park is largely open lawn overlooking Rhode Island Sound, with rocky shoreline for fishing and a reputation as one of the best kite-flying spots in New England thanks to steady ocean winds. It's a popular sunset-watching destination and sits within Newport's historic Ocean Drive district. No swimming beach exists here; the appeal is the open coastal views.
