Brandywine Creek State Park

Brandywine Creek State Park, near Wilmington, occupies land once farmed as dairy pasture associated with the du Pont family before it became one of Delaware's first state parks in 1965. The park protects the Tulip Tree Woods, an old-growth stand along Brandywine Creek, and one of the finest examples in the eastern United States of serpentine barrens, a globally rare habitat that forms on mineral-poor serpentine rock and supports unusual, stunted plant communities. Rolling meadows and stone walls from its farming past remain visible throughout the park. Hiking, biking, and fishing along the Brandywine are popular activities.
