Boathouse Row

$8.00

Boathouse Row is a row of fifteen historic boathouses on the east bank of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, just north of the Fairmount Water Works and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with addresses on both Boathouse Row and Kelly Drive. The houses shelter rowing and social clubs and their racing shells: boathouses #2 through #14 belong to clubs of the Schuylkill Navy, #1 is Lloyd Hall, the Row's only public boathouse, and #15 houses the Sedgeley Club, which operates the Turtle Rock Lighthouse. Every boathouse is at least a century old, and #3 and #14 survive from 1860. Since 1979, lights outlining each building have reflected in the river at night, and in 2005 they were replaced with computerized LEDs that change color for events and seasons. Boathouse Row is a National Historic Landmark and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
