Blue Hills Reservation is a roughly 7,000-acre state-managed park spanning several towns just south of Boston, including Milton, Quincy, and Canton. Its highest point, Great Blue Hill, rises 635 feet and is home to the Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory, established in 1885 and the oldest continuously operating weather station in North America. The reservation is threaded with more than 125 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking, and includes a small ski area and the Trailside Museum. Its granite outcrops and hardwood forest make it one of the largest remaining natural landscapes close to downtown Boston.
