The Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin is one of the largest university art museums in the United States and the principal art museum for the city. Founded in 1963, it holds more than 22,000 works, with particular depth in modern and contemporary American and Latin American art, Italian Renaissance and Baroque painting, and prints and drawings. The museum's two buildings, the Michener Gallery Building (opened 2006) and the Edgar A. Smith Building (2008), are linked by grounds redesigned by Snøhetta and reopened in 2023. Its best-known work is Austin, a stone building with stained-glass windows designed by Ellsworth Kelly and opened in 2018, the only building the artist designed. In 1988 the Blanton became the first museum in the country to create a curatorship for Latin American art.
