Bixby Creek Bridge

Bixby Bridge, also known as Bixby Creek Bridge, carries State Route 1 across Bixby Creek on the Big Sur coast of California, 13 miles south of Carmel in Monterey County. It is a reinforced concrete open-spandrel arch bridge and one of the most photographed bridges in California. Before it opened in 1932, Big Sur residents were effectively cut off in winter, when the inland Old Coast Road became impassable. The bridge was built under budget for $199,861, and at 360 feet was then the longest concrete arch span in the California State Highway System and the highest single-span arch bridge in the world.
