Bear Mountain State Park sits in the Hudson Highlands along the west bank of the Hudson River, near Highland Falls and West Point. A road climbs Bear Mountain itself to Perkins Memorial Tower, a stone lookout with sweeping views of the river valley. Near the park's Trailside Museum and Zoo is the lowest point on the entire Appalachian Trail, at about 124 feet above sea level. The historic Bear Mountain Inn, built of local stone and timber in the 1910s, still anchors the park along with the Bear Mountain Bridge crossing the Hudson.
