Iron-on patch

Basilica of St. Josaphat

$8.00

The Basilica of St. Josaphat is a Polish cathedral-style Catholic church in Milwaukee's Lincoln Village neighborhood, built by the city's Polish immigrant community. Architect Erhard Brielmaier designed it, and the parish built it largely from materials salvaged from Chicago's demolished federal Custom House, Court House and Post Office. The church was completed and dedicated in 1901, and in 1929 Pope Pius XI named it the third minor basilica in the United States. Eight piers carry its great copper-clad dome, and the interior is covered in oil paintings, gold-leaf plasterwork and stained glass imported from Austria.
