Barton Creek Greenbelt

$8.00

The Barton Creek Greenbelt is a 7.25-mile band of city parkland that follows Barton Creek west from Zilker Park to the Lost Creek neighborhood. Its trail runs beside the first 6.5 miles of the creek and then climbs a steep three-quarter-mile rise known as the Hill of Life. Limestone cliffs draw rock climbers, hikers and mountain bikers use the trails year-round, and favorite stops include Twin Falls, Campbell's Hole, Gus Fruh and Sculpture Falls. The creek bed usually flows only one or two months a year, so the swimming holes fill mainly after heavy rain. The City of Austin bought the first 132 acres in 1974, and between 1992 and 1999 the Trust for Public Land bought nearly 1,000 acres in the Barton Creek watershed and donated them to the city.
