August Wilson House

$8.00

The August Wilson House is the childhood home of the playwright August Wilson, at 1727 Bedford Avenue in the Crawford-Roberts section of Pittsburgh's Hill District. The house was built in the 1840s, and Wilson, born in 1945, lived there for the first twelve years of his life. He went on to write the Pittsburgh Cycle, ten plays chronicling the African American experience across the 20th century, two of which, Fences and The Piano Lesson, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The city designated the house a historic landmark on February 26, 2008, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 30, 2013. It opened as an arts center in August 2022.
