Iron-on patch

Atlanta University Center Historic District

$8.00

The Atlanta University Center Historic District covers the joined campuses of the Atlanta University Center in southwest Atlanta near downtown, the only contiguous consortium of historically Black colleges and universities in the United States. Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College and Morehouse College share the district with Morris Brown College and the Interdenominational Theological Center, and AUC students can cross-register and share the Robert W. Woodruff Library. The schools date from the years after the Civil War: Atlanta University was founded in 1865, Morehouse in 1867, Clark College in 1869, and Spelman and Morris Brown in 1881. Morehouse alumni include Martin Luther King Jr. and Spike Lee. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 with 26 contributing buildings.
