Iron-on patch

Arizona Museum of Natural History

$8.00

The Arizona Museum of Natural History, at 53 N. Macdonald in downtown Mesa, is the only natural history museum in the greater Phoenix area. It began in 1977 as the Mesa Southwest Museum inside Mesa's old City Hall, a building designed by Lescher & Mahoney and built in 1937 with WPA funds that also held the city courts, library, and police and fire departments; it took its current name in 2007. Highlights include Dinosaur Mountain, a three-story indoor waterfall with animatronic dinosaurs and a flash-flood show every 30 minutes, the Dinosaur Hall, a real territorial jail, and a re-created Hohokam village. The museum also runs Sce:dagĭ Mu:val Va'aki (Mesa Grande), the Hohokam platform-mound site a short drive northwest of downtown.
