Angel Island State Park

Angel Island is the largest natural island in San Francisco Bay, reached by ferry from Tiburon or San Francisco with no cars permitted for visitors. It has served several military roles over the years, including a Civil War-era garrison at Camp Reynolds, and from 1910 to 1940 it operated as an immigration station that processed hundreds of thousands of arrivals, most from Asia, earning it the nickname 'Ellis Island of the West.' Trails circle the island's perimeter and climb to its highest point for views across the bay. Old fortifications, barracks, and the immigration station buildings remain open to explore.
