Iron-on patch

Anchor Bar

$8.00

The Anchor Bar is a bar and restaurant at Main and North Streets, just north of downtown Buffalo, opened in 1935 by Frank and Teressa Bellissimo. It is credited with inventing the Buffalo wing in 1964: the story goes that on March 4 of that year Teressa deep-fried chicken wings, then usually used for soup or thrown out, sauced them with butter and cayenne and served them with celery and blue cheese to her son Dominic's friends. The wings were first given away free, and the bar later trademarked the Buffalo-style chicken wing. Since 2012 Anchor Bar locations have opened around Buffalo and in other cities, but this corner is the original.
